5 Reasons to go to Maltby Street Market

The best food market probably is the one on your doorstep. The experience really is about having a weekly chat with the small stall-holders, buying your groceries and a quick bite to eat.  Lately, it has been more about artisanal food stalls with many becoming strictly “vegan”.  Personally, we would prefer markets to offer more produce than cookery, but if indeed you’re there to eat, Maltby Street is an institution. We share 5 reasons to love this tiny market:

  • Still a little kept secret: not as overpacked as other foodie destinations such as Broadway market or Kerb.
  • Best of London in one place: Cult classics such as Monmouth, St John are next to each other together with booze from independent distilleries and breweries.
  • Pantry shopping with style: Maltby St is full of gastronomic delights. Less of grocery shopping nowadays but you can still buy your olive oil or organic peanut butter.
  • You get to try the amazing wine at 40 Maltby Street. See our review of this little gem and favorite dishes here.
  • Best Bloody Mary in town and it is gin-based! Slightly salty with strong fresh horseradish served by Little Bird Gin Company. Grab a toastie from the Cheese Truck to cure your hangover.
