A Taste of Campagne at Bayley & Sage

Bayley & Sage welcomed its first customers to their Wimbledon Village store in 1997. Now they are in Parsons Green, Turnham Green, Fulham Road, Northcote Road and a brand new store on Parkgate in Battersea.

We discovered their Fulham Road shop after our visit to Chelsea Farmer’s Market on a Saturday afternoon. This is not just your deli on the corner. They ship their fruits and vegetables from internationally renowned markets in Milan and Paris’ own Rungis. With a selection of over 100 cheeses, you’ll find all the classics along with artisan locally-produced specialities from some of London up and coming producers, such as Blackwoods Cheese Company in Brockley. At the bakery, choose from a fantastic selection of Scandinavian sourdoughs, continental ryes, spelt breads and olive breads, authentic ciabatta, and good old English tin bakes. And, of course, there are plenty of quality wines to wash it all down with!

During the week, the Parsons Green and Wimbledon Village stores offer a lovely array of fresh salads. Be sure not to miss the Garden Shop tucked away at the back in Parsons Green and watch the florists preparing hand tied bouquets and arrangements. Every month you can discover new products on the shelves like 100% organic juices of Marcel Bio bottled in the South of France, Stringhetto Jams coming from Legnago, Italy; Parmigiano Reggiano made in Spilamberto near Modena by a cheesemaker called Poggioli. Check out their website for some ideas on plant-based recipes. We are trying Roasted Jerusalem Artichoke, Radicchio & Feta Tart and Thai Roast Pumpkin Soup right now. Yum.
