We’ve been wanting to try Brat from Michelin’s Class of 2019 and we got lucky with a walk in for Sunday lunch. Located on the busy Redchurch Street in Shoreditch, Brat has somehow managed to create a relaxed and calm atmosphere with the industrial-rustic decor, with both table and bar seating available. Service is great with friendly and informative staff. The food excels in no-frills simplicity but there is nothing simple about the taste. You can find the answer to how delicious smoked potatoes can be, here. The four vegetarian sides and two starters is pretty much all they have on offer but the seemingly plain dishes of grilled peas, grilled bread with truffle and garlic, farm salad or roasted greens taste so good, you could almost come back for the sides alone.

This place is famed as a pescatarian’s heaven but is it good enough for plant-based diners? There are no vegan or vegetarian mains on the menu but we were told that the chefs are happy to prepare off-the-menu options for both diets if asked beforehand or on the spot. We’re looking forward to see if they take on our suggestion of expanding their menu so we can be regulars!
