Sister restaurant to the celebrated Artusi in Peckham, Marcella is a homely Italian in the somewhat unlikely, yet burgeoning foodie-destination of Deptford. While not all of the menu at Marcella is plant-based, they can easily (and happily!) accommodate vegan and gluten-free eaters when asked. The menu changes daily, adapting to utilise the best of seasonal produce. They don’t take bookings – something we’re used to in London now, but the basement bar is a good spot to prop up with a negroni sbagliati (prosecco instead of gin, try it!) while you wait for the main event.
If it’s seasonal Italian cuisine with a bit of flair that you’re after – give Marcella a go. The paired-back, neutral interiors allow the menu do give the biggest impression. Plus, their bar is well-stocked! Fried artichokes, crisp, crunchy and ever-so-salty make for a delicious starter and the pasta dishes are simple but satisfying.
