For London’s foodies Portland means brilliant food served by a laid back restaurant in Fitzrovia. Highly celebrated and a favourite of many critics, Portland received its Michelin star shortly after its opening in 2015.
From the outside, it looks like your typical neighborhood wine bar. Being only a short distance from Oxford Circus makes it a perfect option for the keen gourmet travellers or busy professionals. Scandi interiors with a fabulous wine list adds to its charm.
Vegetables are frequently given starring roles and some dishes can be prepared vegetarian. So, you will have more than what is being offered on the menu; one main (smoked ricotta tortellini) and one starter (London stracciatella with green asparagus, buckwheat & wild herbs) dish as vegetarian options. Pay attention to the snacks section of the menu. Pickled and preserved vegetables and a couple of those carrot & hazelnut financiers with Cornish Gouda cheese will set you just fine for the evening. However, the choices are not many for the vegan guests at this mediterranean influenced menu and this spoils what would otherwise be a 5-star review.

Portland is one of the best examples of why fine dining should be less formal. Go for a chilled lunch or ‘casual’ dinner with someone you would like to impress. If you are visiting London, want to stay central but keen to have a local foodie's experience, Portland will not disappoint.
