Inspired by the late night canteens of Bangkok, Smoking Goat in Shoreditch is laid back and cool offering authentic flavours and ingredients, responsibly sourced by Ben Chapman and his team (who also run Kiln). Reading the menu you can almost taste the heady combination of aromatics, spice and freshness. If you love a good roti and the idea of having curry for breakfast, then this is a must. If you eat eggs, there are a few other veggie breakfast options, such as the smoked aubergine with fried egg and chili roti, but vegans will struggle to find something substantial. The lunch and dinner menus don’t offer much for plant-based diners, so it is likely that you’ll have to combine a few small plates to make a substantial meal. But if you’re also looking for a good cocktail menu with suitably interestingly named cocktails, you’re on to a winner. Maggot Brain, anyone?

To go or Not to go
A great place to go before a big night out (load up on the roti) or if you are in the mood for a boozy dinner with your friends. There’s a great, uplifting atmosphere and though our options were limited, what we had, we enjoyed.
