In Soho’s Kingly Court (just off Carnaby Street), The Good Egg is an independent Middle Eastern restaurant with an award-winning interior serving breakfast, brunch, lunch and dinner dishes inspired by the flavours of the Middle East, with nods to the cuisine of Tel Aviv’s street food stalls and the fare sold in the classic Jewish delis, grand old cafés, appetizing stores and bagel bakeries of New York and Montreal.

The food itself is fine, rather than egg-straordinary (sorry!). The other clue in the title is that vegan isn’t a priority. On the plus side, it’s more than avocado on toast. The Jewish-inspired menu offers plenty of vegetarian options, each with a creative spin on the good old plant. Iraqi aubergine pita and ‘manoushi with ajar’ stand out. As a crowdfunding enterprise, congratulations to the team on their latest venture in Carnaby Street. The commitment to local produce also gets a big tick.
