A brilliant experience of delicious Japan where you least expect to find it. From a residential Hackney street, step into an oasis of Zen; the calm and sleek interior design is understated, showing cool, creative flair. The attention to detail embodies the approach to food here too. The menu is imaginative and understands individual diet choices (vegetarian and vegan, naturally). Sushi goes beyond expectation and plant-based dishes are a feature. Miso aubergine and tempura broccoli competed for our affections, but anything you order is pretty delightful. Uchi may be mistaken for a hidden local gem, but it is so much more than that.
Best for dinner with a date or with foodie friends. There’s also a traditional Japanese table to reserve for special occasions. Not cheap, but reasonably priced for the quality of this inspiring food venture. Go! It’s VV worth making a reservation, and definitely worth an Uber trip East.
