Vegan Bechamel Sauce Recipe

The heaviest of all, the glory of butter, mother of all sauces bechamel can be veganized with just 5 ingredients.

  • 3 tbsp olive oil
  • 100gr flour
  • 800 ml oat milk
  • 1 bay leaf
  • salt and pepper 
  • 1 tbsp grated nutmeg



  • Heat a good glug of olive oil in a pot at medium heat 
  • Add flour while whisking vigorously to make sure you have a smooth paste
  • Add the oat milk all at once, the bay leaf and grated nutmeg and continue to whisk 
  • Allow the sauce to boil and gradually thicken
